Twitter continues to grow despite skeptics

For all of those skeptics who are avoiding jumping on the Twitter bandwagon because they think it is just a passing fad, co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone told the crowd at this year’s D: All Things Digital conference that Twitter has staying power, and they see themselves still running the company five years from now.

In just the last year, the number of Twitter users has escalated to roughly 32.1 million users from 1.6 million. As a result, the company is fighting to keep up with its growing staffing needs.

The media have jumped on board by creating accounts to push out links to the online version of their daily news stories as well as to tweet breaking news. Many journalists have also opened accounts and have even been tweeting to find sources for news stories. This week, USA Today reporter Del Jones reported on a story entirely on Twitter.

If you’re not already on Twitter, you should join today at www.twitter.com. Make sure to follow us!
